The introduction of the role of energy communities as social organisations promoting decarbonisation was mostly surrounded by regulatory and accounting issues. Technical issues have typically arisen in contexts where the Energy Community (EC), as one of the drivers of renewable energy producers' uptake, poses additional challenges to distribution network operation.

In the broadcast of #MEEnet FOCUS on 16 May 2024, we will talk with Dr. Dávid Raisz and Dr. Palma Szolnoki about their presentation, in which they demonstrated that the operation of the ECs can be shaped to create more favourable conditions for the distribution network as investors and operators of renewables and storage, compared to investments of similar volume without the coordination/organizing power provided by the ECs, along individual interests.
